Gay Guide for Asia

Tiwa’s Exhibition

Since his first exhibition held at the now sadly closed “Utopia”, at the request of the proprietor of Dicks Café, Lukas Habersaat, Tiwa Napamamporn has staged an almost annual show at the very popular gay club.

In the past his presentations have been of the Asian male form. This time he will also present some of his seldom seen work. These consist of a landscape and seascape in watercolor, two monochrome pencil studies, and for the person who might appreciate the very delicate work of the miniaturist, he has chosen to emulate one of England’s most popular masters of the landscape Constable.

To appreciate these fully you need to compare them with the originals, only then will you see the delicate work needed to produce a 1/12 inch scale picture. In the west these are very sought after by collectors and the many dollhouse enthusiasts. Not to disappoint the admirers of his other specialty, two of his creations showing the erotic Asian male from will be on display.

Unfortunately he has to bear in mind the restrictions imposed by the local dinosaur censors and can only show a limited selection, whereas his explicit cards and illustration work have only been viewed in the west and in US magazines.

Tiwa’s was always interested in art from a very early age and although, in response to his Chinese parents’ wishes, he graduated from law school, it was not until he was able to decide his own future that he reverted to his first love, art. Many years of self taught study went into developing his present style and the eclectic nature of his talent, able to work in many media, watercolor or pencil and charcoal drawing in landscape, seascape, caricatures and miniatures,.

His love of art is passed on to his students who respond to his exacting teaching methods and often return to take further lessons before entering university. He insists on knowledge of good draughtsmanship but encourages them, once they have mastered the basics, to use their imagination and develop their own style.

Whilst Tiwa loves teaching, he enjoys his creations depicting the Asian Male form, his true medium of expression.

“Sometimes I think it was fate that changed my life. We had a fire in our first house in 1998 and were uncertain about where we were going to move to,” says Tiwa, who lives with his long-time lover Roy in Chonburi. “We discovered our present house in an education centre and the Lady who owns the property offered a place to establish my present school, so I finally have a most reputable private school giving students the opportunity to prepare for entrance examinations for university. I am now so involved with my teaching I hardly have time to work on any of my other interests.

“In spite of my heavy schedule, I was delighted when asked to prepare for another exhibition at Dicks Café,” Tiwa affirmed. “I have tried to present something different this time, and although I must restrict myself in what I exhibit of the male form pictures, it does not prevent me from showing the affection I have for this medium.”
