Slow motion developments in gay Pattaya
Gardening, philandering, musing, death and a little sex
By Suzy Size, gay Pattaya
Suzy Size is a bit bored these days. Your heroine is already back from her latest trip for almost two months and the daily Pattaya routine has fully caught up with her. Gardening for several hours is part of it. The passion fruits love the daily rain and are blossoming heavily. But once planted, there is not much to do. You just wait till the beautiful blossoms die and transform into those sourish red or yellow fruits. In an e-mail exchange Richard Walton had mentioned that Punya – the owner of Sansuk gay sauna and guest house – had bought what once was Siam Thani a while ago. Since the structure was rotten and partly infested by termites, Punya tore it down and uses the land partly as a parking lot for his guests. But on the other part – what a remarkable Thai guy! – he has built a bungalow for his two elder farang friends Richard and Collin. There is space for a herb garden as well where Richard grows: “a Thai bay tree, one tree which may or may not be a proper bay tree, a Californian fig tree, a hybrid lime tree with beautiful limes on it which grow to the size of small oranges, an avocado tree and two mulberry trees.”
When Suzy offered him some self grown passion fruit plants, his answer was quick: “YES PLEASE to the passion fruit offer whenever, we had them in Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe, when I was a kid and being a creeper they could go up the back wall of the herb garden.” So Suzy drove over there and delivered the goodies, together with three different European basils she presently tries to grow. Thappraya road is still a construction site, the dubious honor lasts for more than three years now and there is no end in sight. Richard is funny and cheerful as ever and Suzy enjoyed his company during their chat over a coffee at Sansuk. If you are a talented singer (like Victoria in Osaka) you will be interested to hear that Punya has installed a Karaoke machine on 3rd floor which already is very popular with the Thais. So sing a song and seduce a lovely Thai boy with your beautiful voice at Sansuk…
When still in Europe, Suzy Size was informed about the tragic demise of lovely Champa, the young cat, at the gardens of Castelgandolfo, the somewhat pompous residence of your heroine slightly outside Pattaya. The imprudent animal was wandering on the fence to the front part of the garden where the four dogs are kept. All four nourish a deep aversion towards cats, but Stefan – so called in honor of the best buddy of your heroine - is the main suspect to have murdered Champa. Since life must go on as you may know, Amorn got two male cats this time – called Cha Yen (ice tea) and Cha Manao (lemon tea) – and is hoping they will not seek company with the enemy, but have enough company by themselves and not become lonely like Champa. Time will tell whether or not they will stay brotherly together for ever, but Suzy suspects they will succumb to Wanderlust when there is a female cat in heat nearby.
And: Hopefully said female will appear on the right side of the house…
News from the world reaches your hibernating heroine sometimes. A user of the Pink Pages on Sticky Rice Gay Guide Asia and Gay Guide World sent this comment about Myanmar where he often travels:
“This year I again attended the Nat Festival at Taungbyone outside of Mandalay. This year, 2009, all of the buses from Yangon to Mandalay were sold out, as was the train. Our hotel room had several sleeping on the floor too!
This is the largest Gay Festival in all of Asia and is held yearly about 20km north of Mandalay, for a whole week! It is held the last part of July or in August, the six days leading up and including the full Moon, 5th Lunar month.
Thousands of people from all over Myanmar came to celebrate the Taungbyone Nats. Taungbyone is a religious ceremony to honor two Moslem brothers on the grounds of a Buddhist temple through the Nat celebrations! It is however in fact largely a gay festival. Almost all Nats in Myanmar are gay. Also many fake gay Nats show up to join in the party!
For six days people dance, eat, and drink. The area is covered with food stands and vender stalls selling everything from house ware to souvenirs. Dance groups cover the area performing all day and into the night. For six days people dance, eat, and drink. During the day and most of the night the different Nat spirits hold performances, each trying to outdo the other.
While the whole festival, day and night, is openly gay the ‘real events’ for gay folks start at night. While the Nat ceremonies continue gays openly come out and hold hands and kiss and walk around with their arms around each other, or go off to sleeping quarters! Many are known to discover a neighbor, or fellow student there they were unaware of!
This year we went as part of the assembly that accompanied one of the well-known Yangon Nats to Taungbyone so we got in on the activities first hand, and on the main stage of the ceremony. The most touching moment was during a Nat ceremony when a father and mother brought their 16 year old son and presented him to the Nat. This is a traditional Myanmar ceremony of dealing with a son that the parents have recognized as gay. Everyone in the audience started crying and applauding while the Nat performed the acceptance ceremony.
I highly recommend this festival to all. Because of the ‘night activities’ and because of the day time heat the best time is to go to the festival about 6:30 pm. The traffic by that time has also thinned out. Just take a motor bike out to the festival. There is plenty of transportation back into Mandalay later.”
Suzy might go to Myanmar again in January when two straight friends from Switzerland will go there and most certainly will keep you posted. But for now? Not so new news from Jomtien, but maybe new for you: A while ago Bondi Beach Bar and Guest House has opened where Palm Beach Inn used to be. It is the brainchild of Malcolm and Colin who used to have Bondi Guest House in Jomtien Complex where now Venue is located, the new gay hotel and entertainment complex. Sitting in Bondi Beach Bar you can easily watch everybody going to gay Jomtien beach or coming from there. If you want to see for yourself click through to their website from the Pink Pages of Sticky Rice Gay Guide Asia or Gay Guide World or go to a new entry in the media section where we have listed a new service called Pattaya Gay TV. This website shows videos of certain events taking place in Pattaya and if you have not been here for a while and should suffer acute withdrawal symptoms, get an eye full of it.
Walking towards Boyztown in broad daylight Suzy Size noted some bubbles. This formerly straight Go Go Bar has changed its sexual orientation overnight and has become gay, but the décor has remained the same. Bubbles bode well for straight or gay sex it seems. And then, a little later, your benign heroine walked past Ambiance, it was about 2 pm. A few boys at Boyz Gym were diligent and offered massage. The other ones inside that formidable Gym came out as well, all eager offering their priceless services.
Naturally Suzy picked an Isan hunk and got some bubbles.
Such is the Pattaya routine where the living is easy.
