Chiang Mai: The biggest gay hotel of the world

Lavender Lanna is the one-stop gay place for the discerning customer

By Suzy Size, gay Chiang Mai

Suzy Size got her act together and fled the boredom of her self inflicted hibernation in Pattaya. Rumor had it that a fantastic new gay hotel had opened in Chiang Mai. So your horny heroine was curious as always, wanted to know the truth, see for herself, shed fact from fiction and booked an inexpensive flight up there.

Driving by taxi (120 Baht) from the airport to Sohos Bar and Guest House, Suzy could but notice the huge sign pointing to Lavender Lanna Hotel (for the details as always go to the Pink Pages of Sticky Rice Gay Guide Asia and Gay Guide World). When she called Khun Bird, the friendly and able PR guy of Lavender Lanna, he was free and Suzy went over (five minutes walk from Soho) to get a guided tour through the unique facilities.

Lavender Lanna is located in the building that used to be Tokyo Hotel, right around the corner of Central Kad Suan Kaew shopping center. Most gay places of the city are located in this area of town (or not too far away), Suzy will update you about the general gay scene of Chiang Mai in her report next week. They have upgraded, renovated, redesigned the whole place which has more than 100 rooms, the many works are about 90 percent complete. But listen to their own words: “The Lavender Lanna Hotel and Spa in Chiang Mai is being developed as Asia's premiere gay hotel and spa destination and as a fantastic urban retreat for all travelers gay and straight. We offer a number of outlets opening in October 2009 including a 24-hour lobby restaurant, a lobby bar, a 24-hour gift shop, a swimming pool with a pool bar and poolside massage and salon services available, and the Lavender Lanna Salon and Massage. We will also offer two of Asia's most exciting entertainment and dining venues. Power Boys Chiang Mai is our show bar and nightclub featuring the Lavender Cabaret and will open in October 2009. Lavender Sky is our beautiful roof top restaurant with incredible views of all of Chiang Mai and will open in November 2009.”

Their fully licensed restaurant is open 24 hours a day. And they have just now opened the cozy pool to outside guests as well: “Our pool is the perfect place to relax, unwind, and cool off. Open from 11am to 10pm daily we offer modern lounge chairs and tables, thick towels, a poolside bar, a full menu from the Lobby Restaurant, outdoor and private shower facilities, and a restroom and changing area. We also offer a steam room steps from the pool and a big relax deck overlooking Doi Suthep Mountain. You can also enjoy our massage and salon services poolside including foot massage, back and shoulder massage, pedicures, manicures, and more. Some days, we will also fire up our poolside BBQ for special poolside snacks.

Our pool is also open to outside guests for 20 baht per visit. This price includes access to all of the pool facilities and services including use of our changing room and towels. The fee should be paid to the poolside bartender.”

About 90 percent of the staff is gay, but naturally, straight folks are allowed in as well, if they behave properly.

It goes without saying, there is a top modern Gym, a hair salon and downstairs dedicated massage boys wait for their customers. The Thai massage for one hour is 500 Baht and a minimum of 700 Baht tip is expected. Are you surprised, gay tourist to Chiang Mai? Your heroine had to have one of those massages, after that interesting tour, and – once more - went to heaven in no time.

Jay, an American businessman, is the owner of this unique new hotel. Suzy Size has seen many gay institutions all over the world, but never any that big. And size, as you must know by now, matters to your benign heroine.

Once you have arrived at Lavender Lanna, you do not have to leave for anything anymore, this is a one stop office for all your needs. In the evening you can visit the Power Boys Show in the basement. Only the most modern and refined stage equipment has been installed and the show is of the highest standards. If you like your privacy, hire the VIP lounge where the boys can perform for your eyes only.

And if you still want to see what the rest of gay Chiang Mai has on offer, use the Lavender Lanna Tuk Tuk that will bring you to the other major gay places of the Rose of the North in no time.

Smoke and Mirrors is my impression. A lots of words but just a small hotel with expensive services.Forgoet about the restaurant staff they don't have a clue as well as most all of the management team. I give them 1 year at the most.
